Microsoft, once more, reiterated that its plans to stop OEMs from preinstalling Windows XP Home on new netbook Personal computers on October 22, 2010. Greater numbers of netbook users are running Windows 7, despite the drive space concern. Also, the improvements in netbook hardware has also helped Microsoft's decision to elimate preinstalling XP on netbooks.
Large number of netbook PCs, about 81 per cent of netbooks sold in the month of April, are Windows 7-based. That's good progress, considering the fact that PC manufacturers were charged $50 per copy for Windows 7, compared to $15 per copy of Windows XP. Sure, this is pricey, however, Microsoft expected PC makers to pass the higher cost to consumers.
